Wat Thai first opened in 1974 in small house in Silver Spring, Maryland, It is called Wat Thai Washington, D.C. because of the importance of the temple in the greater Washington, D.C., area, but actually it is located in Silver Spring. In 1986, it moved to current location on Layhill Road. The present temple building, designed in a simple but beautiful Thai style—two stories complete with an ordination hall upstairs and a large multipurpose room below, was finished in 1995. The building close by a library and music room, classrooms, office and meeting spaced, a commercial kitchen, and the living quarters for monks. NEXT |
