Food & Offerings

You are welcome to bring food, salads, vegetables, fruits, desserts, and snacks to offer to the monks
and to share among attendees.

Dress Code: blue πŸ‘•

General casual or polite attire, preferably in blue and white tones. However, please include a symbol of
mourning, such as a black ribbon.

Event Schedule

The schedule for the National Mother’s Day Celebration at Wat Thai Washington, D.C. (Sunday, August 9)
is divided into the following main sessions:

πŸŒ… Morning Session (10:00 AM – 11:30 AM)
  • Merit-making and dedication ceremony (dakαΉ£iṇānupradāna) to offer royal merit
  • Chanting of Buddhist prayers
  • Alms-offering (tak bat)
  • Offering of lunch meal (phen) to the monks
  • Student performances
  • Community lunch
β˜€οΈ Afternoon Session (12:45 PM – 3:00 PM)
  • Chanting and listening to the sermon/instruction by the Abbot
  • Award ceremony for students
  • Announcement and certificate presentation for the “Outstanding Mother of the Year”
  • Reading of poetry in honor of mothers
  • Ceremony of bowing to mothers (krap mae) and presenting jasmine flowers
  • Singing the song β€œIm Oun”
  • Group photo session
